Nexplanon

Nexplanon is a long-term birth control implanted in your arm by a trained healthcare provider. According to the Nexplanon website, it can last up to three years and is 99% effective against unwanted pregnancy.

How Does Nexplanon Work?

It’s a small, thin, flexible contraceptive arm implant placed under the skin of your inner, upper arm.

Nexplanon works to prevent pregnancy by releasing a low dose of hormones into your bloodstream, stopping the release of an egg from your ovaries and preventing sperm from reaching the egg.

Risks of Nexplanon

Nexplanon is one of the most effective forms of birth control on the market. However, with any birth control, there are risks and side effects you need to be aware of.

These side effects include:

  • Change in your bleeding pattern
  • Mood swings
  • Weight gain
  • Headaches
  • Acne
  • Vaginitis (inflammation of the vagina)
